We’re just 10 minutes from trail access points and we offer complimentary pick-up and drop-off service for our guests between Johanna Beach and Ryan’s Den. Hikes and Waterfalls
Lavers Hill is surrounded by the lush rainforests of the Great Otway National Park, with some of the best hikes and waterfalls just a short drive from Otway Junction Motor Inn.
Options include:
Triplet Falls: A 1.8 km (1 hour) circuit that takes you through ancient Mountain Ash and Myrtle Beech trees to elevated viewing platforms overlooking three stunning cascades.
Beauchamp Falls: A 3 km (1.5-hour) moderate return hike that descends through dense forest and along the river to a magnificent 30-metre waterfall.
Hopetoun Falls: A 1 km (30-minute) walk featuring over 200 stairs that take you down through fern gullies to the base of the Aire River.
Glow Worms at Melba Gully
Melba Gully is one of the Great Ocean Road’s most enchanting natural attractions, famous for its magical glow worm colonies. After dusk, the forest banks along the Madsens Track Nature Walk come alive with the soft blue-green glow of Arachnocampa otwayensis, Victoria’s native glow worms. To see them at their best, visit after dark, allow your eyes to adjust, and use a dim torch or red-filtered light to avoid disturbing their delicate light display. Best seen after rain, the glow worms are a year-round wonder that’s an easy 2 minute drive from the Otway Junction Motor Inn—perfect for a short, evening nature walk.
